Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa today instructed members of the Election Commission to look into the possibility of holding provincial council elections soon.
He was speaking to members of the newly appointed Election Commission at his official residence in Wijerama road this morning.
The Prime Minister also asked the members of the Election Commission to look into the possibility of holding elections under the old or new system.
Members of the Elections Commission said that the necessary legal provisions should be made at the ministry level to change the system.
As a result, they pointed out that it would be easier to hold the Provincial Council elections this time under the old system and to hold the elections under the new system after making the necessary laws in the future.
