Teachers and principals currently on strike would boycott upcoming exams, Teachers’ and Principals’ Trade Union Alliance said.
General Secretary of Ceylon Teachers Service Union Mahinda Jayasinghe speaking on behalf of the alliance, said that they would boycott exam duties as well as answer script evaluations of upcoming G. C. E. (Advanced Level), G. C. E. (Ordinary Level) and Grade V Scholarship examinations.
He said that although it was necessary to apply for examination duties now, no teacher had applied for them.
Teachers and Principals launched their strike demanding withdrawal of Kotelawala Defence University Bill, rectification of longstanding salary anomalies etc.
When contacted for comments, Commissioner General of Examinations B. Sanath Pujitha said that the government had already appointed a Cabinet Sub-Committee to resolve teacher issues and he was hopeful it could be achieved by the time of the examinations.
Due to the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic situation, no dates had been set for the A/L, O/L and Grade V Scholarship examinations and applications would be called from teachers as soon as the dates were fixed, the Exam Chief added.
The Cabinet Sub-Committee appointed in this regard is holding discussions with each Teachers’ Union and scheduled to present their recommendations.
