First OMICRON case detected in Sri Lanka

The Health Promotion Bureau says that an OMICRON infected person has been identified in Sri Lanka today.

The sources said that the infected person is a Sri Lankan who returned from South Africa.

Further details about the Sri Lankan national have not yet been released and the Health Promotion Bureau says only that the infection has been confirmed.

As soon as identified spread of omicron, Sri Lanka restricted the arrivals from South Africa, but did not change the scheduled flights. Those who arrived were in 14-day quarantine and this infected person was confirmed while in quarantine.
